It seems as though a lot of us are searching for our “Great Perhaps.” We are constantly wondering, “Will I be happy?” “Will I be successful?” But what if that was already figured out for you. Someone sitting at a computer determined who you will marry, what your job will be, where you will live. In the book Matched by Ally Condie, the world is controlled by one main group of people, the Officials. These officials control every aspect of every citizens lives, and if there are complications, things can get pretty ugly.
In this novel, when a person turns 17, they go to a Match Banquet, where they learn who they will be married to. Cassia Reyes was thrilled when she learned that her match was her best friend, Xander Carrow. She couldn’t wait to spend the rest of her life with this man. However, when Cassia got the microcard containing information on her match, there were complications, and instead of seeing Xander’s face, she saw Ky Markham. This leads to multiple issues because Ky was never supposed to get matched. He was an aberration, an outcast in society, as punishment for a crime his father committed. Cassia and Ky fall in love, and of course, there are complications.
I thought that this book was really good. The characters are believable and develop well, the plot is fairly complicated yet easy to follow. It ends really well, although it is somewhat upsetting. Overall, I thought that this book was worthwhile and I will probably read it again and again.
